A revolutionary approach to weed control
has been unveiled at Southampton Science Park. Waipuna Systems teamed up with Exosect to
demonstrate the environmentally-friendly 'organic hot foam' weed control.
The Waipuna System uses heat to kill and
control weeds. Heat is applied using a biodegradable organic hot foam,
used to trap and hold the heat, which then dissipates harmlessly after a
few minutes. The heat explodes the cells of the plants causing them to
collapse and die.
The Waipuna system can also be used to
remove graffiti and chewing gum.
Phil Harris, operations
manager of Southampton Science Park-based Exosect, a company that also
promotes
innovative techniques in the
control
of insect pests in agriculture, horticulture, amenity and public health,
said:
"We were delighted to invite Waipuna to Southampton Science Park to
show just how effective this environmentally friendly weed control really
is. The results speak for themselves."
