Southampton Science Park continues to enhance the high
tech facilities available in Hampshire with the development of a new 9-acre
plot: Benham campus. Benham is in a beautiful rural setting to the west of
the main campus and enjoys direct access to the 40 acre Chilworth
Conservation Area. It has planning permission for the construction of
102,000 square feet of additional accommodation for science and technology
based industries. Following the recent completion of Kenneth Dibben House,
the Science Park has used up its available land on the main campus. The new
development will enable further clusters of technological expertise to be
formed at the Science Park, which already enjoys an international reputation
as a home to world-class technology businesses as well as acting as a
'seedbed' for emerging businesses in science and technology. Local and
regional businesses are also likely to benefit considerably from the
expansion of the Park.
"This development reinforces the Science Park's position
as the leading science park in the South of England. We are pleased to offer
new opportunities for companies to enjoy the Science Park's unique benefits
of excellent communications, a tranquil setting and an exciting, high tech
environment. The emphasis will be on high quality, low-impact buildings -
ideal for those start-up companies from our incubators that develop into
successful enterprises. But there will also be self-build options for more
established companies," said park chief executive, Dr Don Fox.
In order for development to begin it is necessary to
extend University Parkway to and through the new site, together with an
emergency access route. At the same time all utilities will be laid to the
site, including ducting for optical fibres so that the Science Park's voice
and data services can be extended to the new development. Construction of
infrastructure will be complete early in 2007.
About Benham Campus Benham Campus is a 9-acre site that
lies close to the southwest boundary of Southampton Science Park. The site
is completely surrounded by existing natural features of the highest quality
and will enjoy an exceptional standard of landscape design.
The site has detailed planning permission for 5 buildings.
The proposed buildings will comprise two or three floors of office
accommodation with central areas providing toilet facilities, stairs, lifts
and communications rooms. The internal areas are designed for flexibility,
being open plan but capable of sub-division if required.
Negotiations are at an advanced stage with an anchor
tenant, but opportunities still exist for other companies to locate on this
site. For further information on the opportunities available at Benham
(including long leases of land within the site and plots with planning
permission) please contact Don Fox on 023 8076 7420 or email:
