Park-based BCi has developed and implemented Europe's first
open-architecture Video-On-Demand System for cable customers in
Belgium. The Belgian communications company, Telenet has been
working with BCi over the past six months to create the system
allowing users to view, fast forward, pause and rewind broadcast
programming and movies at the touch of a button.
John Bartlett, BCi's Managing Director said 'We have been working
with Telenet to produce the most advanced Video-On-Demand system
possible, using best of breed products. In a fast-changing
broadcasting landscape it is important not only to deliver an
exceptionally high-quality on demand system, but also to act in the
interest of the client to develop a secure system that is
future-proofed.'
'Our strategy in moving to
the park is to establish a state-of-the-art facility for broadcast
research and development. Our research lab and training facility
(using the resources of Chilworth Manor) will enable our clients to
test and develop broadcast systems as well as assist in our own
research and systems integration activities.'
Jan Vorstermans, of TeleNet says 'We looked for a long time to find
the right team to design a system that would meet our needs. We
chose BCi because they had an in-depth experience and understanding
of the broadcasting industry, and also had the most technologically
brilliant team who grasped Telenet's need for Open Architecture and
delivered it.'
