NISE (NHS Innovations South
East) is the latest in a number of NHS Innovation hubs to be established
throughout England. The Hub, which supports the Hampshire & Isle of
Wight, has several aims:
- To encourage innovations that can lead
to improved healthcare within the NHS
- To provide a dedicated management
service for innovations and intellectual property
- To maximise the regional economic
benefits from the commercialisation of good ideas in healthcare
Dr Anthony Hill, Innovation Manager at the
Hampshire node said "Southampton Science Park provides NISE with the
right location and facilities to forge strong links with its NHS clients
and local industry".
The National Health Service is one of the
world's largest employers and is undertaking dramatic modernisation and
service improvements across the UK. This is leading to many new ideas within
the service.
Dr Hill commented, "Many technology and
service innovations either remain hidden within the NHS or never reach their
full potential. Likewise, many companies have found it difficult to forge
the right links within the NHS, or they are simply unaware of the potential
collaborative opportunities"
