Southampton Science Park's reputation as a
centre of success for technology-based businesses has been further
enhanced through a high level visit by a delegation from the People's
Republic of China.
Mr Dinghuan Shi, Secretary General of the
Ministry of Science and Technology and his party, toured the Science Park
as part of a visit to the UK looking at research cooperation between
universities and the business community.
Southampton is widely acknowledged for its
progressive encouragement of the transfer of technology - a fact
underpinned by the number of businesses borne out of academic research.
Many of these are located at Southampton Science Park, notably in the
Chilworth Business Incubator, which is itself the focal point for the
Enterprise Hub supported by the South East England Development Agency.
During his time at the Science Park, Mr Shi
met Phil Harris, operations manager of Exosect, a company that specialises
in environmentally friendly pest control, and Nick Warren, Managing
Director of Semantic, whose business develops e-commerce systems and
solutions.
