Trade links between Southampton and Asia are set to
grow following a series of international visits to Southampton Science Park,
England.
Representatives from a variety of countries have recently toured the UK Science Park in order to make business contacts and learn how
Southampton Science Park can help foreign hi-tech companies to establish a European base. And the
visits have been so successful that several new business relationships are
already being established.
Science Park South England
One visit was organised by SEEDA (South East England
Development Agency) for its staff concerned with inward investment from
countries with advanced or rapidly growing economies. The visit helped
them to understand the facilities available to overseas hi-tech companies
wanting to locate in the UK - for example to a science park in south
England. Their aim is to spread the word about
opportunities in this area in order to encourage inward investment.
Science Park UK
A second group came from China - from Guangzhou's Bureau
of Science and Technology. The delegation, representing several
industries, visited Southampton Science Park UK to look at the way they promote
the development of hi-tech businesses. Presentations were given by Phil
Harris of Exosect and Garik Markarian of Daisi Broadband Technologies.
Several Southampton Science Park companies are now in discussions with counterparts from
China to develop business opportunities.
