An innovative
event took place recently involving local business leaders and young
people from Regents Park School. The "Enterprise Awareness
Conference" - the first of its kind in the South - used talks,
business games and profiling to help students learn about practical skills
for business success.
Angela Wright, Chief Executive of Solent
Skill Quest, said:
"We aim to develop relationships between schools and businesses so
that students can learn about the opportunities offered by
entrepreneurship. We're delighted to have senior executives from both Southampton Science Park
and Southampton Enterprise Hub as our keynote
speakers. Both are extremely experienced practitioners in this area and
have helped many new enterprises to develop so they know all about the
challenges and pitfalls of setting up a business."
The first of the day's speakers, Dr Don Fox,
Chief Executive of Southampton Science Park said "This scheme is of great
importance - both for business-minded young people and for the future of the
local economy. I am particularly pleased to help these students learn about
entrepreneurship - after all they may well be running companies at Southampton Science Park
in 10 years time!"
And what about events in the future? Angela
adds: "Enterprise is now a government priority so we hope that this
conference will be a pilot and a model for many future events."
