A company offering sophisticated surface
modelling software solutions to many of the world's leading car
manufacturers has become one of the latest residents at Epsilon House.
Employing about 90 people in Europe ICEM's
advanced software uses visual and mathematical analysis to create a
precise digital 3D surface model of a car body or interior details like
dashboards and seats, from digital scans of the clay model of a new car.
These data are then used by the design
engineers responsible for developing the detailed design of the car's
structural elements.
Says ICEM's global marketing director, Kate
Mills: "Not only does the software enable body engineers to create a
surface that is highly accurate; they are also able to evaluate it from a
visual perspective to check out aesthetics such as the way lights in a car
showroom affect its appearance."
ICEM already has a very impressive line up
of automotive clients including Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover, Porsche,
Volkswagen, Nissan, Mercedes Benz and Chrysler. Now it is keen to capture
the remaining big car manufacturers and their suppliers to add to its
portfolio.
Already providing similar software
solutions for manufacturers of products like ski boots and golf clubs,
ICEM also wants to break firmly into the consumer durables industrial
design market.
Says Kate Mills: "We
want to move further towards the front of the product development
process by providing solutions for the designers of any item that
relies on visible surfaces for its appeal - that could be anything
from a telephone to a toaster"
