As anyone who lives or works in this area
knows, Chilworth is a very special place. The village of Chilworth and its
Science Park are much sought-after locations for home-owners and
businesses alike.
Given the proximity of the science park, it is only natural that local
residents should show an interest in developments. We therefore believe
that there is an obligation on the Science Park management to be
completely open about its activities.
It has been a pleasure to co-operate in the developing relationship
between Chilworth residents and the Science Park over the past couple of
years. This has been helped by key members of the local community, who are
genuinely interested in the park and recognise its importance to the
general good.
Enthusiastic visits have taken place to a number of companies,
including BSkyB, Ionoptika and iMeta, as well as to the Chilworth
Conservation Area. We are delighted that Chilworth residents have shown
themselves to be supportive of the Science Park, whilst continuing to
protect the interests of their community.
After listening to the views of local people we have acted on many of their
concerns. This has led to more subtle Park signs, traffic lights at the
entrance to the Park instead of the planned roundabout, and imminent extra
planting along the Chilworth Drove boundary.
This atmosphere of understanding is an excellent base from which to
develop. More than 600 people work at the Science Park - as many as live in
the village - and there is great scope for us to work together for the
benefit of the whole community.
A good start has already been made. The Residents' Committee and the Park
management now meet regularly to identify projects of joint interest and the
provision of a creche, open to Science Park tenants and village residents,
the improvement of Park and village security and the encouragement of cycle
commuting, are all under consideration.
Thank you to the many members of the local community who have shown us
interest and support - we look forward to working with you to keep Chilworth
a special place.
