From satellite broadcasting to advanced
pest control, fibre optics to liquid crystals - the startling breadth of
technology and innovation at Southampton Science Park was unveiled to
Hampshire Ambassadors as they toured one of the region's most impressive
business locations.
They heard about the
history of the Science Park - which is owned by the University of
Southampton - and how the initiative had not only created
significant inward investment from companies such as Merck but had
also spawned numerous technology-based businesses that were
benefiting the area.
At Southampton Science Park, the emphasis is on
creating an environment for success - whether it's for international
market leaders or small start up enterprises.
During the visit, the Ambassadors toured
the Business Incubator - which is supported by the South East England
Development Agency - and BSkyB, where Malcolm Smalley, the Station
Manager, gave a fascinating insight into the technology that delivers
satellite broadcasts to the UK. |
